In the file "Filters and Languages Supported" published on SDL's homepage there's information about file filters available on SDL OpenExchange, one of them is for Star Transit Bilingual Files.
I didn't find anything like that in OpenExchange.
Did anybody try to do this?

Hello
I am from SDL.
It should be live - but you are right I can not see it yet.
I will check with our OpenX team.
Wordfast and MemoQ are live.
Regards
Massi

Any news on this yet from SDL? Jan 15, 2014

I have Trados Studio 2011. Will I be able to translate Star Transit Bilingual Files with it when the filter does become available?
Thanks,
Lorna

It’s still in Beta... Jan 21, 2014

... because we found issues as we tested it. Unfortunately finding enough willing "victims" to test this properly has been difficult, probably because it’s a fairly little used format outside of dedicated Transit users.

An updated build was provided to some willing testers last week, and if you would like to participate too please drop me an email and I’ll happily provide you with the filetype and instructions.

Transit support needed Jan 21, 2014

Hello guys,

I am also in the need of a modern tool, with which I could translate Transit NXT files. I also heard news about the new Trados Studio, that it will be able to import and export Transit files. I think it would be a great advantage for SDL users. Unfortunately agencies still using Transit stick to this tool but I am not willing to invest into a tool, which is not up-to-date and expensive.

So far I was forced to use MemoQ for the translation of Transit files. However I bought licences for SDL Studio 2011 so it would be more convenient for me to localize Transit files directly in Trados.
Actually now I am in trouble as my MemoQ licence is not valid anymore but would have to deliver another Transit project. I thought this Open Exchange App is ready by now, have been searching for it for hours, but just found this forum and saw that it has not been launched yet. That's a pitty...
I have to find out a solution for this project.
Anyway, I really hope that SDL will launch this App very soon!

Hi Tamás,

CafeTran can handle Transit files (and many other types, including Studio files). In the words of Hans Lenting (enthusiastic CafeTran user and former Transit user): ‘CafeTran's handling of Transit's language pairs is even better than that of Transit itself.’

See:

http://cafetran.wikidot.com/using-legacy-translations-in-transit-projects
http://cafetran.wikidot.com/translating-transit-files
https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/cafetranslators/OX1Sevt5dwI
http://cafetran.wikidot.com/changes-in-gandalf

CafeTran runs on OS X, Windows and Linux, has more editing features than most of the so-called industry leading CAT tools and costs only €80, so it might be worth looking into. You can also ask any questions you might have, about Transit files or anything else, in the ‘CafeTranslators’ Google group: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/cafetranslators

Michael (full disclosure: I am a happy CafeTran user, and former memoQ user)

Workflow is perfect Jan 22, 2014

The workflow with CafeTran is perfect. Note, however, that you have to make the analysis (of matching rates) in Transit. I do this before I QA the CafeTran translation in Transit (a second time, first QA is in CafeTran). That way I have to start Transit only once.

Hans
