Hi, I made a small Wordfast TM using Wordfast Aligner.
I opened it in Wordfast Pro 3.4.0, and it said "TM connection established successfully". So far, so good.

Now I'm trying to export it to TMX format, but this doesn't work because "The specified Local TM is empty". It's not empty, the TXT file contains 200 lines.

What went wrong?

A couple of suggestions May 18, 2014

No idea what went wrong, but the Wordfast Aligner included in Wordfast Pro isn't particularly stellar. It is still labeled 'beta' and was last changed in 2010. I'd suggest you use the Wordfast Online Aligner included in Wordfast Anywhere, or LF Aligner. I recently made a short video about the latter.

Regarding your problem of not being able to export the TM to TMX, you may want to give WfConverter a try. It's very easy to use and it's a good tool to have when failing to import from TMX, or export to it.

Problem solved May 18, 2014

Thanks for the quick response, Dominique. WfConverter did convert the TM to TMX format, so that solved my problem.

I wasn't particularly happy with Wordfast Aligner. It missed some obvious links, when all it had to do was connect rows with the same number in two Excel files.

I'll give LF Aligner a try if aligment in Deja Vu isn't any better than in Trados or Wordfast.

If you plan to try out alignment in all major CAT tools, do include memoQ in your tests. I find its aligner very good.

Do try Youalign as well... May 18, 2014

Dominique is right about MemoQ.
And if your doc is not too heavy, do give a try to Youalign. They have a paid version of it which price is just plainly outrageous but the free version is sometimes just enough and works just fine.

Thanks for the tip. I didn't plan to test them all, but memoQ does have a generous trial version...

Aligning is not very important for my business, though. I usually work with client-specific terminology.
