Change log

Apr 22, 2005 21:21: Paulo Celestino Guimaraes changed "Language pair" from "English to Portuguese" to "English"

Apr 22, 2005 21:23: Joao Andre Madeira changed "Level" from "Non-PRO" to "PRO"

Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

PRO (2): Paulo Celestino Guimaraes, Joao Andre Madeira

Non-PRO (1): Stefanie Sendelbach

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Discussion

Non-ProZ.com Apr 22, 2005:
I would like to know if the following sentence is grammatically correct. It
seems to me that is incomplete, something is missing.

"I am writing to respectfully request that a dispensation for a consignment
of ovine semen collected in Brazil from two rams imported into Brazil from
Canada."

...be made / ...be granted

It appears that the main verb is missing! If you add "...be granted" to the end of the sentence then it makes perfect sense!

Thanks :-)
agree Kim Metzger : Yes, a verb is missing and there are other problems: dispensation is used in a religious context - should be "permission."

agree Robert Donahue (X) : You're right Joao. As for Kim's comments, although dispensation does have a primarily religious meaning, it merely means something that is dispensed. I would still recommend changing it though.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Thank you so much, Please note : What do I do if I can't meet my Import Permit conditions? Where importers expect to be unable to comply with the relevant Import Permit conditions for future consignments, they should submit a request in writing to the Biologicals Unit requesting assessment for an amendment to their Import Permit at $80 (plus the assessment fee where applicable). Where importers are unable to comply with Import Permit conditions for consignments on the water or consignments held at a regional AQIS office, the importer can apply for a dispensation. Importers and brokers should be aware that dispensations (formerly known as “Releases”) should only be applied for if the importer is able to provide documentary evidence or rationale that the quarantine risks have been addressed in an alternative manner. In this case future consignments must satisfy all Import Permit conditions. To apply for a dispensation, the importer should submit a request in writing to the Biologicals Unit, clearly outlining the reason for dispensation along with all relevant paper work (e.g. government certificates, manufacturers declarations, invoice). The request should specify the permit number and Quarantine Entry number. The fee for dispensation is currently $284. A dispensation will not be issued where the permit conditions will not be satisfied in future, or if the quarantine risks are not addressed by an alternative means. http://www.affa.gov.au/content/output.cfm?ObjectID=22608160-60D2-435C-BE8859D23623DCC5"
