MAEC
The release of Mauritania´s deposed President.
Thanks in advance

Comment: "Am not going to add glossary entry for now, as I am going to try and get the PM to confirm the term for me. Will do my best to confirm findings. Thanks everyone."

"President of the Higher State Council: Mohamed Ould Abdelaziz
General Mohamed Ould Abdelaziz declared himself president of the Higher State Council on 6 August 2008 after ousting President Sidi Ould Cheikh Abdallahi in a military coup. "
"Notes the announcement of new presidential elections by the military junta, but regrets that no timetable or commitment to electoral neutrality has been declared; notes that four of Mauritania's opposition parties, having now established the 'National Front for the Defence of Democracy', have said that they would not take part in any vote organised by the Higher State Council (a group set up by 11 military officers to run the country in the aftermath of the coup); "

patinba
: I wondered about this, but as it was a creation of the military dictatorship, I decided it would be unlikely to be adopted by a constitutional leader.

(the democracy's) High Council of State
Kate: It looks like the accepted term is "High Council of State". See references below. Though it it is not totally clear that this is the body in question. At any rate, it does seem to be a political body and not a concept, so I think Kathryn and patinba are on the right track here.
Example sentence:
Following the latter coup, Abdel Aziz became President of the High Council of State as part of what was described as a political transition leading to a new election

General Democratic Assemblies or General Assewmblies of the Democracy
As Mauritania has strong links with France, I would imagine the original is Etats Generaux, so I looked this up and got:

This suggests to me that assemblies general (like UN assembly) might be the closest. I dont think forum is right in this context, and States General is a bit too history-oriented
