Given the text, I believe that one can not assume that a pair will never appear to the glove. I even think that might be an idea of the painting / photo: the suspension of time, a time frame, not knowing how the "story of the glove" will end.
For ex., just after the moment of the picture, someone may have picked up and paired the glove.
