mobile APU
Angela, you didn't give us a lot of context, but this might be what you're looking for. APU = auxiliary power unit. Here's a qote from a pilot:
"As I'm currently with the Royal Norwegian Air Force at a Norwegian AFB, I regularly am in contact with different equipment used on fighters while they are on the ground.
"One such equipment is the GTC (Gas Turbine Compressor) which is a small jet engine used to provide air to fighters that don't have a internal APU. (So as you probably have understood, its a mobile APU). [http://www.airliners.net/aviation-forums/tech_ops/read.main/...]"

Thank you, James. Our techs confirmed the "ground starting units". Who would know? :-) Live and learn. |

I couldn't verify that "mobile APUs" are used with helicopters. But it makes sense that they would be used for helicopters powered by turbine engines.

Using APU is one of them. I am just trying to make sure that this is what is used for helicopters.
