French term

triste

French to English Marketing Food & Drink
This is from a marketing document relating to a manufacturer of organic food products. I'm confused by the use of the word "triste" here. Can anyone shed any light on this please? The full sentence is as follows:

Marque premium certifiée pur VEGAN qui se présente comme une alternative à la viande, au tout soja et au végétal « triste » destiné aux végétariens, végétaliens et néo-consommateurs

Thank you!

dull
Note from asker:
Oh, I see. I was reading "sad" as perhaps meaning the unethical means of processing the food. Hence my complete confusion! Thanks!
The term is in inverted commas in the original. I believe the text is for internal use only. HTH.

agree Terry Richards : Seems an unusual thing for a manufacturer to say in a marketing document... Sorry, I did indeed misinterpret the text.

neutral ormiston : very odd given the sentence. is it in inverted commas in the original? Apologies. I missed the implication of "alternative"

not at all - they are saying that they have something better and more exciting to offer than the usual run-of-the-mill stuff

agree Alain Bolduc : I would think bland could also be appropriate in this context, as in lacking taste.

sorry-looking

I think they're suggesting that their organic, vegan products could replace meat, soya in all its forms, and sorry-looking vegetables.

My guess is that, as a marketing text aimed at vegans/vegetarians, the author didn't think it would be wise to say that the product could replace vegetables full-stop, so they added this adjective in.
Peer comment(s):

neutral Tony M : Might work if it were ONLY veggies, but I suspect they're speaking more widely than that; I can't quite see a "sorry-looking" can of beans...

Fair enough. I didn't envisage tinned products, for some reason, hence the suggestion. I think 'uninteresting' is probably the best fit, in that case.
