Swab area with sponge using steady pressure.
(minimum area approximately 4 square inches)
Aseptically replace sponge in bag and seal.
Sanitize sampling site.
Wash hands and replace disposable aseptic gloves between sites and tests.
Do a negative control by aseptically removing a sponge and replacing it back into the bag and reseal the bag.
Code this bag *similar to other samples*.
Within 24 hours, send samples to the laboratory in a clean container with ice packs such that sample temperature does not exceed 7.22° C (45° F).
Record Keeping
Using log book and spreadsheet:
Record date and time of sampling.
Record name of person(s) collecting sample.
