mortality

English to French Other Environment & Ecology
Elephants (Loxodonta africana) significantly alter ecosystem structure and composition through browsing (e.g. pollarding, debarking and toppling).
Such browsing is predicted to intensify during severe drought which may become more common with climate change.
Here, we make use of an elephant impact survey from 2012-2015 and during the El Nino drought of 2015-16 at Pongola Game Reserve (107km2), KwaZulu Natal, to investigate how severe drought influenced damage severity and selection of different tree heights and species by elephants in this small reserve.
Contrary to expectations, damage to common species did not change with severe drought.
Crown damage had the highest predicted probability across heights (29%-90%) and species (46%-75%) regardless of drought.
However, we found severe drought increased the predicted probabilities of crown damage to smaller trees 6m and severe damage at 4-6 m. Consequently, elephant damage during severe drought may alter vegetation structure by severely damaging or killing large trees (>4 m) and extensively damaging the crowns of trees

Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

Non-PRO (1): Drmanu49

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Malaria and tuberculosis prevalence, mortality, prevention and treatment
Létalité (et pas mortalité), prévention et traitement du paludisme et de la tuberculose

La létalité annuelle du requin/surf est donc inférieure à 0,00002%. (et pas la mortalité, qui serait ambiguë)
