Spanish term

coagulado

Spanish to English Tech/Engineering Textiles / Clothing / Fashion textile labels
In a document from Spain for translation to British English. Relating to certification of a fabric product, apparently for clothing labels in this case, but what does the "coagulado" add?

"Tejidos de poliéster satinados en blanco, negro o beige sin coagulado (para imprimir etiquetas)."
"Tejidos de poliéster satinados reciclado en blanco sin coagulado (para imprimir etiquetas)."

Others options mention "resinado de PA", "resinado de PU" or "resinado perlado", so perhaps it is the absence of these coatings?

PU I haven't got personal knowledge of this, but looked for clothing labels as I've commissioned some in the past. This link has mention of iron labels made of PU. Link https://wunderlabel.co.uk/ and this page https://wunderlabel.co.uk/printed-labels/

I think there may be a difference between coated and 'coagulado' fabrics. About half way down the page in this link there are some diagrams outlining how fabrics (leather in this case, I think) are PU coated. It shows what it calls the PU process. The first method is 'poliuretano coagulado' which consists of two processing stages marked 'línea coagulación' and 'línea recubrimiento'. The second method is 'poliuretano reactivo - High System'. Only the first process involves any 'coagulation'. I'm not sure if this is referred to as PU wet coating or not because so far, the only references I have found are on websites that are for companies in non English speaking countries. I've tried a google images search for the diagrams (as they are in English) but, unfortunately, I can't find their origin.

coagulate base

Polyurethane coated fabric has two different manufacturing processes, the Wet PU Process, and the Dry PU Process.

"The Wet PU manufacturing process consists of coating a coagulated base on a substrate backing...In the Dry PU manufacturing process, the **coagulate base** is totally eliminated. The PU is coated directly on the face of the backing."

Since the source text includes the info that the reason for not using the coagulate is so that a label can be printed, this might be useful for context from a fabric printing company that deals with tagless label printing, mentioning that some polyurethane coatings are "unfriendly for screen printing." https://www.superiorinkprinting.com/blog/water-based-heat-tr...

I would say that, although you might need to ask a few questions of the client to really clarify this further, I think that if you go with "coagulate base" you certainly have some strong basis to back it up. I would ask the client if this term "coagulado" is referring to the PU coating altogether, or to a specific manufacturing process. It sounds like it's the second, but you might want to ask if it does just mean (as you surmised) that there is no PU coating or resin of any kind. If this is the case, perhaps you could translate "sin coagulado" as "uncoated."

Coagulation of the filaments involves two-way mass transfer with the coagulating agent (e.g. acid) diffusing inwards into the filaments and the chemical products of coagulation (e.g. salts, H2S) diffusing outwards. It is sometimes necessary to use an intermediate process to produce a solution.
