I think the suggestion: "waste or squander" by the fellows pertains to effort or money. I think here it is intended to mean: "Ibtal Al Aswat", hence the term above: to make a vote invalid for procedural or fraudulent reasons. Good luck.

You take time to become knowledgeable about the candidates and issues. However if you look at your vote from this personal, micro, point of view, you come to a rather disturbing conclusion: your vote appears to make no impact on the election results...
