English term

in good viewing areas

English to Russian Tech/Engineering Architecture
I've been asked to translate a letter into Russian about the design
of a memorial containing the following sentence:

Up to seventeen (17) plaques placed in good viewing areas along the
side and back walls

I don't do English>Russian translations professionally but was asked to do
this in addition to my Russian>English translations for them.

My tentative translation of this sentence (well, пункт), for your amusement, is:

До семнадцадати (17) досок размещенных по боковым и задным стенам доступным к виду

Hopefully my Russian is understandable, if not literate.

До семнадцадати (17) досок размещенных в зоне хорошего обзора вдоль боковых и задней стен.

Вместо слова "обзор" можно употребить слово "просматриваемость", но мне таой вариант нравится меньше.

Я написала \"вдоль боковых и задней стен\", потому что боковых стен две, а задняя - одна.

Не \"таой\", а \"таКой\", разумеется 8-)

расположенных на виду

До семнадцати (17) досок, расположенных на виду вдоль боковых и задней стен.

When something is in a good viewing area, it's said to be "на виду". I would not want to use words such as "зона" unless absolutely necessary, hence this attempt of avoiding that.

Hope it helps, Gary.

Not sure you were aiming to get a critique of your own translation, but I hope it won\'t hurt, so here goes. Basically the only weak part of your translation is the last one - \"доступных к виду\". \"Вид\", as a noun by itself, does not entail the meanings of \"viewing\" or \"vision\", just those equal to \"view\", \"shape\", and \"outlook\". In other ways, \"вид\" is different from \"просмотр\", \"обзор\" and \"наблюдение\".

So, Natalie\'s rendering does work, but I just offered another \"view\" :)))

In other **words** - I goofed, sorry.

FYI: Just because no one reviewed the question after it was buried in a pile of newer ones, it doesn\'t necessarily mean that an answer without agrees is worthless.
