Sub-committee announces successive recommendations
Since the beginning of 2001, the Singaporean government has reacted to stagnation in the domestic economy, saying it is “the country’s biggest test since its founding”, by announcing in October economic stimulation policies equivalent to 7% of nominal GDP. In December 2001, it also set up the Economic Review Committee to review the economic systems themselves.
In April this year, sub-committees on taxation, CPF, labor rates and land policies recommended a reduction in the corporate tax rate from 24.5% to 20%, a 3% rise in GST (consumption tax) and the introduction of Group Relief. In May, the Entrepreneurship and Internationalisation Subcommittee (EISC) announced the introduction of competition laws and a review of governmental pressure on private enterprise.

Em abril deste ano, os sub-comitês de tributação, CPF, encargos trabalhistas e políticas territoriais recomendaram a redução da taxa de imposto corporativo, de 24,5% para 20%, um aumento de 3% na GST (taxa de consumo) e a implantação do Grupo de Socorro. Em maio, os Sub-comitês Empreendedor e de Internacionalização (Entrepreneurship and Internationalisation Subcommittee – EISC) anunciaram a implantação das leis de concorrência e uma revisão da pressão governamental sobre a empresa privada.
