I revise and correct articles for publication by university academics and research institutes. Due to the COVID-19 lockdown, many of them have found themselves with enough time on their hands to write new articles, or dig old ones out of the back of the cupboard, dust them off and try again. So, I currently have at least half a dozen sitting there waiting until I have time to tackle them, hopefully next week I'll be able to get at least a couple of them done.

My translation work for my (non-agency) clients is also proceeding apace - but I've had to refuse 2 jobs from agencies this week. And the few other translators I know personally are also either busy enough or on holiday. I'm just hoping that in August it will slacken off a bit and I can get at least a few days of rest and relaxation. ▲ Collapse | | | Ventnai Spain Local time: 14:34 German to English + ... This is the same as yesterday's poll but in different words. Anyway, I had a reasonable start to the year but a huge drop in April with slight increases every month since then. | | | Aline Amorim Brazil Local time: 10:34 English to Portuguese + ... Been about the same | Jul 10, 2020 |

To my surprise (because of the coronavirus pandemic), it has increased; I had the usual ups and downs in January, March and April, and a terrible May, but February and June were excellent months which by and large counteract that. July has started very promisingly and I have work scheduled for August and September. So, all is well in this neck of the woods for the time being... | | | Mario Freitas Brazil Local time: 10:34 Member (2014) English to Portuguese + ... A little lower | Jul 10, 2020 |
To be precise, my statistics show a 1.5% decrease in the first half, in terms of volume, yet an 8% decrease in income, which clearly shows a decrease in the average rate. There has actually been an increase in the proportion of Brazilian clients as compared to International clients, which obviously causes this average rate decrease. But the exchange rate of the USD has risen more than 20%, which helped offset these differences.

So, out of all economic factors that affect these stats, the COVID is not so representative, after all.

That's interesting. My January was as usual, then February and March were my best months ever (I started in 2012), which made up for a terrible April, and since then I've been back to normal. Now I'm booked until mid-October, with about 3 weeks time off in August to relax/take care of some personal matters. | | | Richard Jenkins Brazil Local time: 10:34 Member (2006) Portuguese to English + ... A competent project manager will tell you that some of their customers are sending work as normal, while others have stopped or are trickling slowly back. Just think about it; we've been through several months of self-isolation, staff redundancies and furloughs and things are nowhere near back to normal and won't be for some time. Anyone who works in tourism, for example, will be hugely affected in terms of work volume. Don't panic folks, the world isn't going anywhere and we're all stuck on thi... I don't keep records of my daily/weekly/monthly/yearly word count, but I do keep record of my USD income, and I've been receiving exactly the same average monthly income as 2019. Considering that my clients and general rates are the same as well, then I can conclude my work volume is being kept.
But that is about volume...
