As you get older I have really learned take care of myself. Sure I get distracted - but I follow a simple eating and exercise routine and get weekly massages. There’s always time to fit in a healthy meal.

I tend to eat less when I’m busy with work and when I’m really overloaded or the project is really interesting I might even forget to eat or, worse still, to drink, even though I always have a bottle of water near my desk. I must say that an espresso coffee works wonders for my brain when I happen to run into a stumbling block that I cannot overcome. My apartment is not very big, but I have been thinking of buying a second coffee maker for my office…

When I'm absorbed in a translation, my mind goes into a different dimension. I remember back when I was an in-house translator sometimes I would be working so intently that I didn't realize that everyone had gone home for the day.

I reward myself with food and drink during my projects, e.g. just another 100 words and I can make a sandwich. The only trouble is, the harder the project is - the more I eat!

I'm so used to working in blocks of a few hours at a time with a meal break in between that my stomach will always tell me if the morning or afternoon shift is nearly over.

When I'm really focused on an interesting translation, usually short stories or a novel, I don't think about eating at all. Then, usually at night, the thought crosses my mind that I had forgotten to do something during the day, I hadn't eaten at all, especially since I never consume anything at breakfast time other than my beloved "black gold".

...but I can postpone it.
But actually, I don't eat too much during the day. I don't lunch, for example. So it's not a big deal.
