I actually play a bit of guitar, basic record stuff, but I don't really get the metaphor in the question.

Other Dec 3, 2023

To be honest, I never saw myself as a musician and I find the idea a bit pretentious, but if I did it would be more like a maestro than a performer or soloist. Like a maestro I have to weave all the pieces together ensuring that the translation looks like an ensemble.

P.S. My mother played piano professionally and she tried to teach me at a very young age but apparently talent skipped a generation…

I must admit that I do not entirely understand the intention/mental image behind this question.
As a translator, I see myself more as the studio engineer recording and mastering the "music". Other than that, I do actually play the bass guitar semi-professionally.

What language and what context? Every language sounds differently.

Piano Dec 3, 2023

Piano or guitar. An instrument capable of producing a passable cover version of whatever type of music you throw at it.

Although I really wanted to answer “potato”.

I make them crunchy, the crunch sounds like music.

Differences Dec 3, 2023

I can only see differences between languages and musical instruments. I get it that perhaps there are metaphorical similarities or differences, but as an avid an long-time classical fan, it's a whole different world for me from that of languages. I do play the piano but it has nothing to do with my translation work. And I less and less like forms of singing of any kind. Also, all the different instruments can play, in themselves, in various ways and very-very different genres. I feel that this q... See more

My old beautiful Arial 10 guitar! Dec 3, 2023

It would definitely be my old beautiful rock and popular guitar! I am a guitar player since my childhood and I couldn't possibly imagine another musical instrument picturing so perfectly well my fast writing-translating-proofreading, especially my 200 words per minute writing, other than the Guitar itself! If only I could play my favorite popular Greek songs for all of you, to make you feel how strongly beautiful Greek folkloric and popular music is! My deepest wishes for Health, Love, Peace and...
