The rather unfriendly, non-Wacken Main Stage subgenres of metal. Black, doom and sludge metal is where the magic happens.

I don’t have a favourite music genre, it depends on my mood: it can be classical, jazz, pop or rock, but I don’t listen to music while working as it totally distracts me and interferes with my ability to focus on my work.

I find it difficult to place one genre over another. I am happy to listen to almost anything I like. And it depends on the context. For example, I usually have the radio on in the background when I'm working and it's usually BBC radio 6. However, sometimes I get fed up with that and I listen instead to a French radio station (FIP) with a different kind of mixture of sounds.

On other occasions, depending on what I'm working on, I might prefer to listen to classical music in the background, like Vivaldi. I don't usually enjoy silence when working, as I can find it distracting. ▲ Collapse
I'd go for that because it would be too long to write down all the subgenres

In fact, especially when working. My weird mind hates discernible lyrics when it's busy with work, so when I am getting yelled at without being able to make out individual words, it all blends to "productive background noise". I also tend to listen to a lot of instrumental music, ranging from dark ambient to drone doom. Speaking of which, just as I started writing this reply, Tidal dug out some nice Lustmord tunes.

I like having classical music on while I'm sewing. It's pleasant to listen to but I can disconnect when I need to concentrate to avoid having to unpick something stupid.
No music while working.
Neilmac I love Fip too, and it's my choice when travelling by car. The Jazz à Fip programme was always soothing for me in the days when I used to drive regularly.

But then if I'm listening purely for pleasure, it'll be rock, interspersed with soul. I sometimes put music on when I'm cooking, but then I might just let something boil over because I start dancing. ▲ Collapse | | | Supermarket music | May 13, 2024 |
At the moment, hits and not-so-hits from the 1950s, at other times, plenty of classical (1750-1900) and Italian opera, some jazz and blues, 1960s "pop", occasionally Italian folk songs and some country. Basically, supermarket music (anything I don't pay attention to after a while - which may be any of these) while I'm working.
When I'm not working, the same genres, but I listen.
