I never buy anything on Black Friday or in other special periods. Most discounts are either low or simply false. It is my experience that only buying something when you absolutely need it is the best overall discount you can get, regardless of when exactly you buy it.
I once bought an espresso machine for a little over 300 euros, which was supposed to be a discount coming from over 500 euros. I bought the machine (still have and use it after 5 years, it's an excellent one), only to ... See more I never buy anything on Black Friday or in other special periods. I bought the machine (still have and use it after 5 years, it's an excellent one), only to discover after my purchase that this machine could be bought basically everywhere for a little under 300 euros.
Hard lesson learnt.

When it's Black Friday or any other periodic consuming commandment, I don't really think about what I could buy not to miss opportunities of a lifetime.
But this year, I needed additional UPSs, and I bought them online from my domestic IT reseller last week.
Compared to prices currenly displayed on their website, I saved about 20% (because yes, RRSPs stated seem to be there only to be discounted and don't occur in real life).

Those 20% saved will remain as income and not business expenses, and I will pay income tax (~15-20% of gross in my situation) on those savings. At the end of the day, buying on Black Friday made me save about 16,5%.
Sadly, in absolute value, the money saved can't even pay me a meal in a regular restaurant to celebrate this achievement.

I never buy anything on Black Friday. Go figure why storeowners considered it one of their most profitable days of the year…

I am not prone to spontaneous shopping and plan most of my purchases in advance. If it isn't urgent, I am happy to wait and I save a lot of money that way. There are things I never buy at full price because I stock up on them when there is a sale, but to answer the question: I am not sure I've ever bought anything related to work on Black Friday, but, if I needed something, I would.
I sometimes buy professional software, webinars, etc. at a discount, and it has happened that this was on Black Friday. Not an annual thing, however. | | | WolfgangS France Local time: 14:15 Member (2007) English to German + ...
