I have "unplugged" days regularly, especially on weekends, because I am absolutely sick and tired of tech and the companies behind it.
Last month, during the June holidays in Lisbon, my daughters, one of my granddaughters and I spent a few days at a hotel in central Portugal (an area known as the Silver Coast). On the first day, we all managed to disconnect, although it was much more difficult for my granddaughter than for the rest of the group. We swam, walked the trails, talked, played cards, assembled a puzzle, read books, went to bed early… The next day, we were all connected again with a strange feeling of having been to... I sometimes do that. Simply enjoying the nature by myself without any pieces of technology. It feels kinda refreshing.

| A computer-free day, but not phone-free | Jul 22, 2025 |
I have a computer-free day now and then, although I usually check e-mails and news in the evening.
Those days are rarely phone-free - I use the phone for contacting family, finding my way to somewhere interesting - a museum or somewhere to relax with friends, and as a camera. But I rarely use my phone for work.

I have and I love it, but I don't think about it very much. Usually I simply try to limit my use of them and keep it to just necessary or at least something interesting and to avoid wasting my time endlessly scrolling on Instagram (I still fall into that trap sometimes, but there is an option to set a daily limit and I mostly manage to stick to it).

As long as you stay away from social media apps, you will be fine. Just delete all that addictive crap from your phone. | | | | | Why is there no button to vote on this poll? | Jul 22, 2025 |
It makes it very one-sided if only some ProZians have a voting button.
The question is silly, when posed to professionals whose livelihood depends on being online and connected all the time. To disconnect for one day, especially on a weekday, would obviously be absolutely detrimental to business.
Case closed. | | |

Us working with technology does absolutely not mean that we have to be online and available 24/7. That would be detrimental to our physical and mental health.

Now that I am no longer waiting anxiously for the next translation job to come in, my email has gone from "busy all the time, requires immediate action" to "very quiet and nothing urgent", I am able to walk away from my computer and leave it for hours. I never use my phone anyway, except to get access codes to my bank accounts etc.

Yes, when hiking, vacationing, traveling (in transit), doing outdoor activities. This can range from a part of the day, whole days or weeks, if/when I decide to do it consciously. | | | | Novian Cahyadi (X) Local time: 12:33

Or never pollute your phone with them in the first place. | | | | Liena V. Latvia Local time: 08:33 Member (2014) French to Latvian + ...

Most phones come with them already installed though. Setting up a new phone for me usually involves uninstalling at least half of the apps, if they can be uninstalled at all.
