Thanks, Samuel! The Lingobit product looks like a nice tool, too (and it's free), but is it any good? Could anyone maybe recommend a particular website localization tool? | | | Heartsome Translation Studio | Aug 28, 2009 |
Heartsome Translation Studio or Swordfish It is a commercial software that functions really well when you need to localize a website, but also functions really well for all other types of translations. Thanks for the suggestions, Diego! I checked out both and they both look like good tools but seem to be working differently than the "attack" tool from Excitic (at least as I understand it from their products screen shots). | | | They are two different things | Aug 31, 2009 |
Hi! I personally would not use a software whose site is reported to be an attack site.........when I try to download it...If I had a software and sold it on my website I personally would have visited it to see how it looked and if my browser reported it to be an attack site then I would call my webmaster immediately to report it.... Remember, you are downloading an .exe file... The software, from what I can see from the screen, is very similar in look to Lingobit Localizer (as Samuel said) which is a very expensive and powerful tool that is used for l10n. Heartsome is good for web l10n as it hides the tags that do not have to be translated....(but then again many CAT tools do). If you want a tool to use in software l10n you will probably have to pay a lot of money for the license but then again it is an investment if you localize software on a regular basis. If your client has the SDL Passolo Team Edition, as many big software companies do, you could install, free of charge and with no time limit the SDL Passolo Translator Edition: http://www.sdl.com/en/sites/sdl-passolo/downloads/ The only thing is that you will not be able to create a project yourself but your client or agency will have to and then send it to you for translation. You can only translate a project that has been already created with the Team Edition. Just install it, as it is free and then ask your client if he has the Team Edition. Or you could buy the full Passolo license and enjoy localizing. I read a very interesting article regarding the 2009 edition on Multilingual Magazine. These tools translate .exe, .dll and a lot of other types of files and Windows applications...in a simple way... Big software companies usually have in-house translators or hand out their projects to big l10n companies like Lionbridge or Lingo Systems.... and these companies will probably have the Team Editions so that they can hand out some of the work to external translators. Anyway if you want a good application, a professional application, to localize Windows and other software then, I am afraid, you will have to invest some money for it. HTH Diego ▲ Collapse | |

Diego - Thank you so much for your extensive outline and information! I really appreciate it and will look into it further to see if I can/should justify the expense. | | | T F F Italy Local time: 17:07 English to Italian Excitic...censored by Google? | Sep 5, 2009 |
Hi all, I was looking at this tool as Sabina, searching for opinions & comments from colleagues... The price is good and the features seem quite interesting as well. Unfortunatelly Google is scaring a lot of us: is there anyone who had the nerve to download the 21 MB .exe on his/her machine for the convenient free trial of 90 days? I have had a bad opinion of the company because they should control their website, but I have also found out that when Google decides your website is dangerous - you can fill a module and ask for a review but - you're branded! So, will I lead the way or is there someone else who already clicked on "Save"? ▲ Collapse | | | Additional tools | Nov 4, 2009 |
I am surprised about Google marking Excitic as a malware site - I just checked, & neither Firefox nor my quite sophisticated firewall & anti-malware programs detected anything fishy.
