Because I only use free webmails like Gmail and Yahoo, and sometimes messages from clients, potential or otherwise, go into the spam folders, so I tend to check them a few times a day just in case.
I never used to do this - or only did so rarely - until I realised it was happening when clients turned up saying "didn't you get my e-mail last week?"....
I check my spam folder every morning, after I have opened my new emails. I have two email addresses: my "public" account gets about 10/20 spam emails a day (mostly Nigerian bank scams, prescription drugs, inheritances, lottery wins and… CVs); on the other hand, my "private" address, the one I use for family gets at most 1 or 2 spam emails per month. Like Neil, now and then I find a message from a client in my spam folder… | | | Nikolay Novitskiy Russian Federation Local time: 21:03 Member (2018) English to Russian Yes, very often | Mar 25, 2022 |
I check my SPAM folder frequently since this happened to me...
Once I got a letter from a Nigerian princess. She was in big trouble and asked me to send her some money, but I failed to receive her message in time. It went to my SPAM folder, you know... So when I've read her letter months later, it was too late. I wasn't able to help her. Poor girl

I use Gmail for work-related mails, and I try to remember to check the spam folder once a day, but sometimes I forget for a day or two. When a legitimate mail goes to the spam folder, I immediately create a whitelist mail rule for it.

I don't have a spam folder for my non-work related mails (for which I use Thunderbird). My one mail provider does have a spam filter and sends me a message whenever a mail was blocked for spam, so that I can click a link to unblock it. For another mail provider, spam mails are stored in the webmail but I don't get any notification about it, so I set up a filter in that webmail to always move all spam messages back to the inbox, to ensure that I receive all mails. Thunderbird also has the ability to identify spam on incoming mails and move it to a folder, but I don't use that feature (this does mean that I have to deal with spam as and when it comes in in Thunderbird).

I use my own domain email in Outlook, so supposed spam shows up immediately. More often than not, it is actually a legitimate email.
Mails from one of my best clients used to get filtered out surprisingly frequently, as I discovered when she called me on the phone!
Now her mails rarely end there, but among all the offers that are too good to be true I regularly find mails, usually from mailing lists, or even from Proz.com, which are definitely not spam. (Even if I delete them as soon as I have read them!) | | | I want notifications | Mar 25, 2022 |
After witnessing a couple of important emails dropping on the spam folder, I tried to enable notifications for spam emails (I don't get them frequently anyway). But there is no such option. And I'm tired of checking it everyday. I will contact to Gmail support team to request the function to be added.

I don't get much spam mail and I have Thunderbird set to send it directly to the trash folder. I check and clean up all my folders at least once a week and then delete all the trash. | | | Tom in London United Kingdom Local time: 16:03 Member (2008) Italian to English Russian babes | Mar 25, 2022 |
For some reason I've suddenly been getting lots of invitations from hot Russian girls who want to spend time with me, if only I would click on them. | | | Baran Keki Türkiye Local time: 19:03 Member English to Turkish What's stopping you? | Mar 25, 2022 |

I completely forgot about checking spam mail, because I was so busy working all of the time, after my account provider quit displaying the quantity of the same next to my inbox list. After a while, I began to wonder why one of my most important clients ever had dropped off of my inbox radar for almost a month, while we were still in the middle of collaborating. Because of her advanced age, I just assumed she was taking a bit of a rest from our work together, because that is what she had sometimes done up to that point. I just kept working on my translation of one of her books, without giving it a second thought. But one day I decided to check the spam. There were 3 mails in there from her, which she wrote over a period of 3 weeks. The fact that I didn't respond to any of them during that time, when I always had in a timely manner before, seemed to have caused more than a bit of anxiety for her; but because I had already been working for her for many years, she probably assumed, more than anything else, that I was having some major medical issue (because of MY advanced age), and that she might have to search for someone else to complete the project. You can bet that I have been a lot more conscientious about checking spam since then!

For the last 2 to 3 years, I've been keeping an eye on the spam folder every now and then on the email client. It's not a bad thing. Sometimes I find good distractions. | | | Kevin Fulton United States Local time: 11:03 German to English

The majority of my business-related correspondence formerly ran through my business email address which rarely received spam, although now I rely on a different email server. I use Gmail primarily for personal purposes, although occasionally business-related correspondence comes through, generally because of carelessness on my part when contacting an existing customer. For some reason, my university-related email address delivers mainly spam. In other cases, certain catch phrases in an otherwise useful email trigger a filter, and the correspondence is sent to a spam folder.
