STEP 1: WHAT IS THE EXPERIENCE?
This step aimed to review policy and methods for public participation in planning at European level, as well as identify problems on the basis of existing experience in the partners΅¦ countries.
The review was based on desktop research of the literature, legislation, professional journals etc and personal interviews with a limited number of key people in each country, mostly planners. Contribution regarding public participation in planning at European level was offered by the European Council of Town Planners (ECTP).
This section includes summaries of the national reviews on public participation in planning, presented in the following table in order to facilitate a cross-country examination and comparison of the legal requirements and common practices in different countries. The table features a number of horizontal themes which were investigated in the PICT partners΅¦ countries, as follows:
„X Historical overview of planning policy and practice;
„X Planning process;
„X Public involvement in planning;
„X Professional bodies influence;
„X Participation in Information and Communication Technology (ICT); and
„X The strength and weaknesses of the civil society and the public sector in the partners΅¦ countries.
