OK, that's probably some kind of marathon. But why 10K? What does this stand for?

It refers to the distance of the marathon.

agree Kurt Porter : 10 kilometers..and it does NOT refere to the distance of a marathon. It's a standard foot racing distance ( 5K, 10K, and the marathon).

agree JaneTranslates : The correct form in English would be "10 kilometer run"; in a noun adjunct, the noun functioning as an adjective is always expressed in the singular form. Other than that, this answer is correct.

the "k" stands for kilometer..kilometre or it is scientific notation for 1,000 ..meaning 10 times 1,000 meters = 10 k
