This is a text defending abstract art by an Argentine painter from the early 20th century. I think "valor" may mean simply color here:

I would go for brightness or intensity, as "value" is potentially ambiguous.

: Just a question: how would you phrase that in this context though, as it's talking about "two xxx"? You can't say two brighnesses or two intensities - which is why I think "two tones" or "tonalities" works here.

Without knowing for sure the intended meaning of "valor" as used here, I would take the safe road and use the most ambiguous term possible.
