Prior to makin...g the bold leap of independence, Ms. Cockburn worked as Foreign Language Specialist (Spanish/English) at the Secretariat for the Implementation of Spanish (SIS) for six and a half (6 1/2) years, where she represented the Government of Trinidad & Tobago locally and internationally. In that role, Rebecca met and collaborated with the Spanish-speaking Ambassadors accredited to Trinidad and Tobago and planned, coordinated and executed seminars, workshops and conferences in English and Spanish. She also did translation and simultaneous interpretation, gave presentations, wrote and edited articles for publication, wrote bilingual speeches and proposals, did strategic planning and budgeting, among other responsibilities. These duties were a natural fit with her special interest in language learning and post-graduate training in Latin American history, politics, culture and International Relations.
Ms. Cockburn has also worked in the Consular Division of the Embassy of Mexico in Trinidad & Tobago and was a private tutor in Principles of Business and Spanish (the latter for over 10 years).
Rebecca is currently pursuing a post graduate translation programme with City University, London and holds a Master’s degree in International Relations and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish with Economics from the University of the West Indies. Her passion for foreign languages led her to study French, German, Italian and Portuguese. Rebecca has also earned certificates in Proposal Writing, Anti-Money Laundering, Project Management, International Protocol, Diplomacy and Etiquette and a series of Export Awareness courses. She intends to continue learning additional languages and broadening her knowledge of world cultures.
