English term or phrase: want mules for daughters
Reddening, my father cleared his throat. “I’m not
much of a nursemaid, I’m afraid.”
“Nor should you be,” D barked in his defence.
“The girl’s fine. Just look at her, Florence. She’s as
strong as a mule.”
“Ah, yes. We all of us want mules for daughters,
don’t we?”

ما همه خواستار توان و نیرومندی دختران هستیم

Explanation:
در اینجا طبق متن واژه «میول» یعنی قاطر که استعاره از توان و قدرت است

disagree  Hooman Rahimi: the use of mule denotes a negative meaning whereas as strong as a mountain implies a positive meaning.

همه ما قاطر به عنوان دختر می‌خواهیم، مگه نه؟

Explanation:
In English mules are known for being strong, stubborn, and stupid. In the previous sentence where D says "she is as strong as a mule" Florence takes the comparison and turns it around to ridicule D by saying "Ah yes, we all want mules for daughters, don't we?".

I think it is necessary to use قاطر in both situations, otherwise the image and the sarcasm is completely lost.

we really should not translate this as
(همه ما دخترانی می خواهیم چون / مثل قاطر (نیرومند

This gives a positive connotation to the sentence "Ah yes, we all want mules for daughters, don't we?"

The speaker (Florence, I think) is ridiculing D's comment about the girl being as strong as a mule. She is being sarcastic and means we don't want stubborn and stupid daughters (like mules).

I hope this is clear for everyone...if not I will try again.

همه ما خر به عنوان دختر می‌خواهیم، مگه نه؟
Given the cultural context of Persian, خر is probably better.

disagree  Hooman Rahimi: In Farsi, "خر" is known for being strong, stubborn, and stupid. Although mule is used in English to imply those qualities, it is better to use "خر".

-> Perfectly good substitute...I was originally thinking of that but I decided to go with mule. My bigger concern was the grammar/structure of the other answers that did not really convey the meaning of the English. I hope that part is clear now.
