French term or phrase: la période phare des admissibles
This appears in a university prospectus where the section discusses various student job opportunities for students. The full sentence is: (The School) vous propose des jobs étudiants au sein même de l’école, compatibles avec vos heures de cours : contrat au pôle AS Q, à la médiathèque, ou encore pendant la période phare des admissibles vous permettront de financer une partie de vos études et de vous professionnaliser !

My guess is they mean a job during Fresher's week involving welcoming new students? For example, working at the student union or something?

English translation:salient moment of admission testing/examinations
Explanation:
To enter a French Grand école one must normally pass an entry examination. This competitive (that is some will get in , others will be eliminated) exam is taken in two steps. Normally a first step is a written essay or other test, which determines a shortlist (not so short often) of "admissibles". Admissibles is someone who's been deemed good enough in the first stage to move onto the "admission" stage, which is the famous "oral" or oral examination.
The "période des admissibles" is that time between the two stages in which candidates that went through the first stage (the "admissibles") congregate at campuses to take their oral exam and hope to make the grade to enter the school. During this tie student already enrolled sometimes works as caperons or in other capacities to introduce the "admissibles" to future campus life or just guide and assist them through the period of the oral exams.

-> No worries. I just threw it in as a helping hand and upgraded from simple comment to make it visible. Surely there's something more stylish one can come up with.

agree  Wolf Draeger: Maybe something more along the lines of "helping to organize the [second] entrance/oral exam"?

-> No problem, it's more of an explanation to help. Anyway the "période des admissibles" is the acme or whatever you want of admission exams plays out. It's a do or die moment for many French students

showing prospective students around

Explanation:
FPC's explanation is helpful, but a literal translation doesn't work in my opinion. I would make it much less specific.

at the peak time in the admissions cycle

Explanation:
During the peak time in the admissions cycle, there are a lot of campus visits, tours, open houses, admissions events, etc.; I work in a university.
