Asker: Thank you. Although used for the same purpose (i.e. land-surveying, measuring distances), this instrument does not have the same design as "sáhoměr" which is an A-shaped instrument similar to a "divider" or "compass"...

agree  Michael Sarni: OED: surveyor's wheel n. a device for measuring distances, consisting of a wheel of known circumference which is attached to a handle and rolled along the ground by a person on foot; = odometer n. (a).

That's exact description of the same device in English

Here's the definition: http://www.directlinesoftware.com/survey.htm
A Frame - A measuring device built in the shape of an A. The distance between the legs is 6.6 feet (one tenth of a chain. To measure the acreage of a small square parcel, multiply the width and height in "A's" and move the decimal point three places to the left. For example, a square that is 6 A's wide and 4 A's tall is .024 acres.

Basically that's so-called "proportional divider", but bigger in size - A-shaped. Unfortunately that has nothing to do with wheels.

Asker: Thank you for all your suggestions but A-frame, although very close to sáhoměr in its design was not used the same way or for the same purpose as sáhoměr.

(Hauptner) landsurveyor('s) compass

Explanation:
I guess this is the kind of instrument you're looking for.

Example sentence(s):
  • The idea is that you lock the legs at a set distance (in this case either 1 m or 2 m). By simply rotating the compass while walking, a distance can be measured. The instrument seems to have been in use for setting out agricultural fields as well as (rough
