Hamulec V-brake jest szczególnym rodzajem hamulca szczękowego (to jak z kwadratem i prostokątem), każdy V-brake jest szczękowy, ale nie każdy szczękowy jest V-brake.
A hamulec szczękowy stosowany w rowerach szosowych jest rzeczywiście klasyczny, ale stosowany jest niemal wyłącznie w tego typu rowerach, wobec czego nazwy hamulec szczękowy używa się niemal wyłącznie w odniesieniu do takiego akurat hamulca.
