Social Sciences - Psychology / "ויתור"
Hebrew term or phrase: ויתור
I'm translating a book that deals with social rejection in children written by a psychologist who has treated children suffering from social rejection for the past couple of decades from Hebrew into American English.
I simply can't come up with the right translation for the following:
ההבנה שבדיאלוג בין הצרכים שלי לבין צורכי האחר חייב להיות רכיב של ויתור
the
ויתור
in that sentence- how would you translate it?
It's speaking about teaching the children who are in therapy that they need to understand that in social situations there is a need to XXXXX between their needs and the needs of others
I thought
רכיב של וויתור
could be translated as an element of adaptation
as in the child needs to know to adapt himself in social situations, to take into account his needs together with the needs of the other.
I originally thought concession could work but it seems to be British English.
Do you have other suggestions please?

English translation:Accommodation "a need for a degree of accommodation" "need to accommodate yourself"
Explanation:
I think this might be a potentially appropriate option.
When used in relation to others it expresses the need to accept other people's behavior, views etc.
When used reflexively, "accommodate yourself" it does actually appear to be somewhat synonymous with ויתור.
See the Cambridge Dictionary definition:
"to change yourself or your behavior to suit another person or new conditions"
