grautmål raspy 'gruel' vernacular Explanation: To start the ball rolling, albeit into a linguistic minefield.. FRE p.e.: intonation norvégienne de timbre rauque (?) graut / grøt in Bm. = bokmål (book-variety Norwegian -> I have been warned, for half a century, about, off and against using the term of 'Standard Norwegian'.) and means porridge - alas, in British English, doubles as doing prison time. 3. Intro to norsk-engelsk ordbok /Norwegian /English dictionary by Einar Haugen: including a photocopy of nynorsk forms (sent to me by a Norwegian friend) but no clues as to pronunciation. .,1 standards of pornunication. 'there is no offical or private organisation that attempts to dictate standards of pronunciation in Norway'. PS there are supposed to be two offical languages in Norway, but a Norwegian oil and shipping engineer at our London translation office doubling as an English business language school had been adamant that there 'as many as 7 different languages, rather than dialects in Norway'. Norwegain colleagues can comment on the 'spoken form of New Norwegian' - as in the second example sentence. Having been to Henrik Ibsen country of Grimstad / Skien, I formed the impression that Bm is spoken, but that both Bm and NN are acceptable written varieties. PS å snakke bredt / hardt _ to talk with a broad accent vs. with a hard German accent, but merits a separate question. FRE: parler avec un accent norvégien prononcé / avec un accent allemand fort prononcé (farouchement 'boche' !). Example sentence(s):

mouth full of mush Explanation: In American English, (hottytoddy.com) have heard remarks like" sounds like talking with a mouth full of mush. Maybe it is because it is so cold, seriously in North Dakota people do throat singing, and in mountains of Idaho, you soon learn not to open your mouth and crack your teeth by getting them too cold, I have. Understand why in Finnish Olka Hovve, good morning, is prounounced almost with out opening your mouth. (Seriously, so othe Scandamavian languages may do the same. ""My ex-coworker talked really fast and didn't really open his mouth. What a pain."" from Reddit. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 2 days 8 hrs (2023-02-27 22:17:01 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- links https://www.hottytoddy.com/2016/05/31/114-southern-similes-m... https://www.reddit.com/r/Finland/comments/z74nlf/nonnative_f... https://www.hottytoddy.com/2016/05/31/114-southern-similes-metaphors-and-other-allusions-for-dramatic-effect/ https://www.reddit.com/r/Finland/comments/z74nlf/nonnative_finnish_speakers_how_would_you_describe/ |
