agree  MMFORREST: A synoptic view consists of a simple HTML image map stored as a separate file outside of the XSI scene File (the synoptic folder funnily enough). ...http://www.onionboy.co.uk/tutorials_synoptic.html

disagree  chris collister: "synoptic" is rather unusual in English, and is usually found in theological contexts (synoptic gospels). I would prefer its "synopsis" derivative as, say, general or overall view. A report with "synoptic" in it would have most people reaching for the SOD

Explanation:
More readily/commonly/understandably known as "mimic diagram". Typically a board in a control room showing lines and flashing lights signalling the status of equipment on those lines. The sort of thing that might well be incorporated in a building management system.
