In this context, I think this works. The meaning of the idiom
"The elephant in the room" and its variants mean to that people choose to ignore or are not able to bring themselves to speak about what everyone knows. Another option may be, in this context, "Admitir el secreto a voces"...but I"m not too crazy about this option... Buena Suerte!
