is that "agotado" means "washed-out" referring to a heat haze that turns the sky from blue to white. So there are multiple ideas here:

- heat exhaustion accompanied by thirst of human being (Jesus)
- heat exhaustion transferred from Jesus to the sky, thus personifying it
- sky with its colour "washed out" by a heat haze

the notion of heat-exhaustion in direct sunlight from the human being (Jesus) to the sky, thus personifying the sky as he has done in so many of Barbara's other questions. I have to say that while in the UK we seek direct sunlight, in Canaries their instinct is to seek the shade.

On another point, it's the heat generated by the sun that is "agotado" not the strong light -- it's the heat that made Jesus seek water.
