In certain embodiments the switch-mode regulator 170 may comprise an adjustable buck regulator, for example.
The non-isolated stage 154 may further comprise a processor 174, which in one embodiment may comprise a DSP processor such as an Analog Devices ADSP-21469 SHARC DSP, available from Analog Devices, Norwood, MA, for example.
In certain embodiments the processor 174 may control operation of the *switch-mode power converter* 170 responsive to voltage feedback data received from the power amplifier 162 by the processor 174 via an analog-to-digital converter (ADC) 176.
In one embodiment, for example, the processor 174 may receive as input, via the ADC 176, the waveform envelope of a signal (e.g., an RF signal) being amplified by the power amplifier 162.
The processor 174 may then control the switch-mode regulator 170 (e.g., via a pulse-width modulated (PWM) output) such that the rail voltage supplied to the power amplifier 162 tracks the waveform envelope of the amplified signal.
