on that side of the divide Explanation: Chema and Mary are both right about the use of "grieta" to describe the divide that exists in Argentine society. I think the "avenida" refers directly to the forum at which AF was speaking, and is a sarcastic reference by the journalist to the "avenida del medio" or middle way proposed by certain moderate politicians in an effort to bridge the divide, which certainly does not describe AF's comments. |

In that spate of betrayal Explanation: The choice of meanings is between avenue and outburst (of speech for instance) while the second part of the clause is either a breach, break, fissure or crack. A breach is a broken promise or betrayal. "The official decision to abstain from the recent voting among the OEA (organisation of American states) which approved a resolution to cancel or delay 'the regime's continuous pursuit' against the objectives of Venezuelan laws passed on to the national assembly and against the functioning of the political parties and democratic institutions in Venezuela. It's one of the positions which holds the fourth term of government. .. The parliament continues to be delayed or detained and no one in Argentina has made a declaration on those or other subsequent delays." I understand that those who abstain from voting remain neutral without supporting the stance of one group over another. Example sentence(s):

(increasingly) polarised political landscape? Explanation: There seems to be a lot about 'la grieta' in current Argentine politics. For example: the below article describes the current split within the population, and the narrowing/shrinking of the 'middle ground'. https://www.clarin.com/politica/grieta-opinion-publica-partida-angosta-avenida-medio_0_B19UhmdTe.html |
