Spanish term or phrase: Reservas Naturales Concertadas
Hello,
I would be grateful for any suggestions on how to translate 'Reservas Naturales Concertadas'.
It is in a chapter about a book on protected areas, and this chapter deals with some of the legal instruments involved.

Here is the context:

Many thanks in anticipation.

-> Thanks. Perhaps, while this link is for schools, another option, and a shorter one than previously proposed is "semi-private" https://spainhomes.com/blog/life-in-spain/schools-in-costa-b... (public, private, & semi-private schools (concertado).

Concerted Natural Reserves (+ explanatory note)

Explanation:
Definition: Natural reserves established by means of cooperation agreements made between the Andalusian government and private or public landowners. Official translation used by the Andalusian Government in their English documentation: “Concerted Natural Reserve”.
Problem: Difficult to understand for English readers. However, the Spanish expression is also difficult to comprehend for the Spanish readership. “Concertado”, obviously the troublemaker here, derives from “concierto”, with the meaning of “agreement” in this particular case.

My advice is to translate the expression adding an explanatory note. Otherwise, the term “concerted” can provoke confusion in the English audience.

Concerted Natural Reserve

www.motril.es/index.php?id=1953#:~:text=Una Reserva Natural...
¿Qué es una Reserva Natural Concertada?
Una Reserva Natural Concertada es un tipo de figura de protección ambiental en el que se preservan determinados terrenos de interés ecológico mediante un convenio de colaboración entre una Consejería de Medio Ambiente y los propietarios de los terrenos a proteger.
En nuestro caso el convenio se realiza entre la Consejería de Medio Ambiente de la Junta de Andalucía y el Ayuntamiento de Motril como el propietario de los terrenos de la Charca de Suárez.

Finally, we must emphasize that the protection of a territory is a substantial tool for the conservation of the organisms and the ecological processes that ensure an adequate ecological functioning. The declaration of the Charca de Suárez as a Concerted Natural Reserve has involved protection of threatened species, habitats and communities. It is very probably that without this protection, the Charca de Suárez and all its inhabitants would no longer exist.

agree  patinba: The Charca de Suárez is also known as a "Nature Concerted Reserve"

neutral  James A. Walsh: "Concerted" just doesn't work for me here in English. You don't get "explanatory notes" in real life...

agree  neilmac: If it's published in Science Direct, that'll do for me. And no quibbles here about the capitals (Concerted Nature Reserves).

neutral  AllegroTrans: "Concerted" borders on meaningless in English and conveys nothing in this context

agree  James A. Walsh: Me too (nature). "Designated" is a vague (yet "official-sounding") explanation that covers all angles! Definition of designate: "officially give a specified status or name to"

neutral  philgoddard: I don't see how you arrive at this from "concertadas".

Concerted Nature Reserves

Explanation:
"Level 2 - Andalusian Network of Protected Natural Areas (RENPA): natural cover is considered within the boundaries of the protected natural areas part of RENPA, i.e., Nature Parks and National Parks, Nature Reserves, Nature Sites, Protected Landscapes, Periurban Parks, Concerted Nature Reserves and Natural Monuments (PA categories defined by national and regional legislation)."

So, the administration is not public + private, but national and regional.
Concerted, in the sense of planned or done together for a shared purpose. https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/concerte...
