first/initial/earliest/original vintages Explanation: 'Due to the limited nature of these bottles, they are becoming increasingly difficult to source, particularly the original vintages from the 1980s.' https://thefinestbubble.com/news-and-reviews/the-taittinger-... https://www.vinetur.com/2020110362319/osborne-ensena-las-sol... Foundation solera Explanation: The starting point for the process. These are all top notch Sherries, easily the equal of many of the record breaking Clarets and Burgundies in terms of quality, and often much older, so amazing value. But this age thing is a problem. Most fine wines carry a vintage date so one knows how old they are, but Sherry very rarely does, and one comes across it for sale with the solera foundation date mistaken for the vintage, and a price to match, even though the word “solera” appears on the label! A quick glance at the bottle would tell most people the wine could not possibly be that age – I saw an “1830” with a plastic top! I believe it is generally ignorance rather than dishonesty. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 2 horas (2024-04-10 12:52:17 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Toro Albalá Viejísimo Amontillado 50cl O'Briens Wine https://www.obrienswine.ie › products From a foundation solera dating to 1922, this is a complex and dry Amontillado from the small Montilla-Moriles region of central Andalucía. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 1 día 2 horas (2024-04-11 12:24:41 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Ageing in Jerez: The Solera System http://jerez-xeres-sherry.blogspot.com › 2013/12 › agein... "solera foundation" from jerez-xeres-sherry.blogspot.com Dec 30, 2013 — Some brands of Sherry include the date of the Solera's foundation, (eg Gonzalez Byass Solera 1847) but this should not be mistaken for a vintage ... -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 1 día 2 horas (2024-04-11 12:26:34 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- The system of maturation is called solera. Take fortified base wine, fill the butt, and set this butt on the floor of the warehouse called bodega. We just founded a new solera. Next year fill another butt with a new base wine and set above the original one. Repeat the procedure 3-14 times. Solera is made. |
