by the volume

English term or phrase: by the volume
Contexte:

The valve volume is the volume displaced by the pump and hence does not account for volume retained in the kit. For example, the net volume for valve A would over-estimate the volume that has been delivered to the waste bag by the volume of the chamber.

Je précise que le texte a probablement été rédigé par un non-anglophone.

-> you're right I see now, it would be better to suggest "le volume envoyer vers la poche de déchets serait surestimé d'un volume égal à celui de la chambre"

over-estimate by the volume
surestimer du volume

Explanation:
The EN is fine, but judging by the other answers, your parsing may not be helping comprehension here: you need to look at the verb expression as a whole 'over-estimate by...' followed by the amount by which it is over-estimated.
Not sure whether 'de' is correct here, but I think we would say 'surestimer de 10%', wouldn't we?

-> Merci, David ! Yes, that sounds more like FR :-)

agree  BdiL: Mais, à la fin, il fallait bien comprendre la source... et ensuite bien le dire en français. Mais c'est Tony qui a dégagé tout ça ;-) (E grazie anche a David! Thanx to you too, David!)
