----------------------------------------------- Maximum Allowable Working Pressure (MAWP) is the maximum gauge pressure permissible at the top of a completed vessel in its operating position for a designated temperature. The pressure is based on calculations for each element in a vessel using nominal thicknesses, which are exclusive of additional metal thicknesses allowed for corrosion and loadings other than pressure. The maximum allowable working pressure is the basis for the pressure setting of the pressure relief devices that protect the vessel. http://www.ognition.com/1505/maximum-allowable-working-press... The MAWP value does not remain constant throughout the lifespan of the equipment. The value reduces due to wear, fatigue and corrosion in the case of the carbon steel. Storage tanks and pressure vessels should undergo periodic inspections and re-rating or calibrations to allow for changes due to corrosion and wear. These should be well documented and a safe set of pressures implemented, as well as be reflected on the vessel’s pressure release devices. https://www.corrosionpedia.com/definition/761/maximum-allowa... -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 1 hr (2020-01-13 15:28:03 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Design Pressure vs. Maximum Allowable Working Pressure (MAWP) Alberta (ABSA) and Saskatchewan (TSASK) Typically when doing calculations for pressure vessels you start with a set of design parameters to determine your vessel characteristics. The design pressure, temperature, corrosion allowance and several other factors contribute to the calculations, affecting the wall thickness of the shell, heads and nozzles. https://pveng.com/maximum-allowable-working-pressure/ |
