En un instituto de educación superior de Argentina, los estudiantes del profesorado tienen esta materia que se diferencia de la residencia pedagógica. En práctica de la enseñanza los estudiantes van a instituciones educativas a observar clases reales y asisten al profesor que da esa clase (que de manera voluntaria accede a tener los practicantes en su aula). En cambio, en la residencia pedagógica un profesor voluntario cede a los estudiantes del profesorado el aula para que a modo de práctica dicten ellos las clases.

What is fieldwork?
The objective of the fieldwork experience is to connect course content to practical application in classroom teaching. The student will be able to identify and observe/use instructional best practices, lesson planning, lesson delivery, differentiation, assessment, and reflection. After completion of the course work and the activities specified, the student will be able to identify best practices in teaching and characteristics of effective teachers.
When is fieldwork completed?

All Education courses taken prior to the Student Teaching semester require 10 hours of fieldwork.
Where is fieldwork completed?

Field placements are made in partnership school districts: Hanover County, Henrico County, Richmond Public Schools.

Student Teaching
What is student teaching?

The capstone experience of Randolph-Macon College’s teacher preparation program
Includes a full-time placement in a classroom where the student teacher assumes all teaching, administrative, and management responsibilities of a classroom with guidance from the professional classroom teacher and a college supervisor
Completed in a minimum of 13 weeks
How does student teaching work?

Completed during the spring semester of the student’s senior year
Requires the student’s full-time attention so employment is not recommended
A senior seminar complements and extends professional development once a week during spring term
Students create electronic professional portfolios that promote use of technology, increased reflection on teaching, as well as compilation of teaching activities to assist in job searches
Students have opportunities to participate in education job fairs

What Is Student Teaching Like Compared to Practicum?
Student teaching is much more involved and hands-on than a practicum. In rare cases, student teaching may include some observation in the early days of the experience. But for the most part, student teaching requires a teacher-in-training to take on all of the responsibilities of a professional teacher. Student teachers lead the class and perform out-of-class duties such as lesson planning, communicating with parents, and attending meetings of the faculty and PTA.

My practicum actually lasted a whole semester, and I was the only classroom instructor. I was just observed three times by my practicum.coordinator. Student teaching usually lasts longer than a practicum, e.g. one school year.
